Rayman Origins in time for Christmas

Rayman Origins has got one step closer to a release date with Ubisoft recently updating its blog (via Shack News) to say Episode 1 will be out Christmas 2010. The other chapters – however many there will be – arrive in 2011. As expected from the E3 trailer, Rayman Origins is set for HD consoles, Xbox 360 and PS3 to me and you, with the Wii, PC, iPad and 3DS all being “considered.” Interesting that 3DS is in the list of systems eh? The tools behind Rayman called UBIart Framework are being touted as “a complete homemade solution for creating and editing levels and characters,” will be open source in 2011 from www.ubi-art.com. Beside from some great artwork, what looks good about Rayman Origins is its humour and personality that have made the franchise so beloved even if it’s not a massive seller. Speaking of money, a price is yet to be confirmed but then so is a solid release date!

Ubisoft revealed their limbless mascot Rayman will be making a comeback in a very lo-fi platformer. Not in terms of gameplay but in development as only five members of staff are creating the hand-drawn, cel-shaded game. Rayman Origins is a classic old-school platformer showing the early years of Rayman and looks gorgeous for such a small team of people. No announcements have been made about platforms but since the trailer can be viewed in 1080p, both Xbox 360 and PS3 are almost certain.
