A sequel to the hit card-battling downloadable game, Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers, has been announced for a summer 2011 release. Odd then that the game is called Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 but maybe Wizards of the Coast are thinking to make it a yearly franchise. Yeah, that would be a bit crazy wouldn’t it? Anyway, MtG:DotP 2012 will feature new game modes, new opponents, more challenges and new decks and will hopefully include the option to fully customise your very own deck rather than tweaking the pre-existing ones like the first game. A cool new feature is the Archenemy mode enabling two players to fight one AI foe. That would have been so handy in the original because one dude kept kicking my butt whereas my friend managed to beat him with ease. Those lucky enough to be attending PAX East can sample Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 before its XBLA, PSN and Steam release in the next few months.
