A new trailer for Level-5’s sequel to a prequel (hold on, it does make sense), Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle has been released and what makes this game a little more special than the previous titles is its three-dimensional graphics. Mask of Miracle will be the first 3D Layton game and subsequently a 3DS outing scheduled for next year but we may have to wait some time before it heads to the West as it’s the fifth game of the series. So far, we’ve only had the first three released in English and are yet to receive the fourth.
Mask of Miracle is the second part in a trilogy of prequels following directly on from the aforementioned fourth game, Professor Layton and the Devil’s Flute. The trailer (sitting comfortably after the break) shows a younger Layton and his older self in the two separate timelines plus a couple of new games type too. It also reminds us of the daily download puzzle Level-5 are distributing via wifi for MoM, extending its lifespan for a whole 365 days. If ever there was a reason not to trade-in a used game, this be that reason.
While we’re unable to see the 3D anime cut-scenes without some kind of sorcery at the moment, you can tell by the arrangement of characters and the angle of certain shots that Mask of Miracle is going to be one good looking game for 2011. In Japan that is. 2012 is the best we can hope for!
