Elder Scrolls 5, Mass Effect 3 and a very tired writer

The 2010 Spike Video Game Awards have just finished and here in England it’s really really late. So late that I won’t even begin to pad this article out with fancy words I found in a thesaurus but will simply give you the facts in all their glory. And glorious they are with the announcement of Elder Scrolls V that came with its very own release date too. November 11th 2011. There goes my winter! Mass Effect 3 may no longer have been a surprise but it was still really cool to see it at the show. Read on for all the reveals and titbits at this year’s VGAs as well as a couple of debut trailers too including Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Enjoy, I’m off to bed!

The Spike VGAs 2010 featured the following awesomeness (the notes from the event precede six trailers. Please be patient, they will all load!) :

Batman Arkham City trailer. The Joker isn’t the main bad guy it seems but comic bad guy, Hugo Strange is and wants to bring an end to the dark night.

BioWare win Best Studio 2010

Elder Scrolls 5 announced with a release date of November 11th 2011, official name Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. A follow on to Oblivion with no in game footage shown just some cool CG of a stone beast coming alive and looking angry.

Kratos officially in Mortal Kombat but only for PS3

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood wins best action adventure game 2010

Mass Effect 3! Mass Effect 3! Mass Effect 3! The sneak peek of some dude with a gun was a soldier on Earth speaking of the Reapers (who he doesn’t name as he is unsure what these aliens are). The trailer pans out and shows London in the middle of a Reaper stampede with the soldier saying Shepard is Earth’s only hope.

Resistance 3 shown and this time you play as the guy who killed the hero of the first two games. And the trailer (below) has an age gate so be warned!

Prototype 2 trailer looking very much like Prototype and coming 2012.

Guillermo Del Toro takes to the stage to tell us of how much he loves gaming and reveals Insane scheduled for 2013. The teaser show hardly anything but the name thought does look pretty freaky and most likely to be a horror or survival horror of some kind.

Limbo wins Independent Game of the Year. Very well deserved.

World premier of Portal 2 that has two robots being built and coming to life. Very comical ‘Laurel and Hardy’ affair with one short and fat and the other tall and thin.

Forza 4 again announced for late 2011.

SSX announced by some actors from True Blood. Why? I have no idea but only CG video of a guy jumping out a helicopter on a snowboard. I guess the full title is SSX: Deadly Descents.

Uncharted 3 people! World debut of the highly anticipated Naught Dog game. Video pans over some maps and books etc then shows Nathan in the desert on his own, grabbing a gun from a dead man’s hand then stands in front of a wrecked plane and jeep. Quick flashback then Nathan sets off into unknown territory. There’s a tiny bit of gameplay footage and a date of November 1st 2011 (corrected after realising in my half asleep state I wrote it down wrong!).

Red Dead Redemption wins Game of the Year. Kinda expected really but still, kudos to Rockstar for making another awesome game.

And we’re done. Well that was entertaining! More exclusives than you could shake a stick at and all of them for triple A games that are sure to win their very own awards at in the coming years. Superb.

  1. Mass Effect 3! I don’t care that the trailer didn’t show much at least I know that around this time next year I’ll have some Mass Effect-y goodness!

    • I know what you mean. It would have been cool to see some in-game stuff but BioWare are very good at making exciting cinematic trailers and the absolute confirmation that its coming is good enough for me!

  2. Ah good. Another year of being skint thanks to Turn 10 and Bioware… Really must get around to finishing ME2 first though.
