Now here’s a conundrum; the next Fight Night game to come from EA, Fight Night Champion, is to be the first ever M-rated title from the EA Sports family. People under the age of 17 should not play the boxing sim when it’s released. But the gentleman’s sport itself is something that all ages can and have been enjoying on television for years despite its violent image. Just a thought,
Rather than disputing the rating, EA Sports instead has embraced their first M because, for them, it’s actually very good publicity: “As the first-ever ‘M’ rated EA Sports title, Fight Night Champion showcases the truest graphical representation of the sport, lifestyle, and culture of boxing with authentic and dynamic blood, realistic body damage and deformation, and mature content throughout. Experience the violence and brutality that is true to the trade.”
Boxing is a quite an extreme sport but arguably less than UFC whose games are merely labelled with a Teen rating. So it’ll be very interesting to see just what EA have included to their fifth Fight Night game in order to be classified as mature. The debut trailer doesn’t show anything over and above the previous titles in terms of violence so whatever it is must be within the gameplay itself.
Fight Night Champion is out March 2011 for Xbox 360 and PS3.
