Before the hype machine really spins into action, Peter Molyneux has started things off with his ambitious desire for Fable III’s sales figures. Speaking with MVC he said how there is an expectation for the third game of the franchise to best the two which preceded it, selling over five million units: “We want more than five million people playing Fable III on the Xbox 360, full stop.” Molyneux didn’t say over what period he wants this to happen but hopes that the casual audience will be just as interested as the hardcore crowd what with the game being more accessible for them: “Part of that plan is less clutter in the game, less aggravating little inventions that Peter Molyneux once thought was a good idea. More clarity, better story, better cast, better balance,” he said, referring to himself in the third person.
Ambition is one thing but Fable II sold 3.5 million units a couple of years ago so setting a goal of 1.5 million more than that may be a tad optimistic. Molyneux hasn’t included the now delayed PC sales either, resting everything on the Xbox 360 edition out October 29th. A new video montage of Fable III‘s combat was also revealed today showing some new features to the fighting. Could the additions play a part in wrangling a million and a half extra players? Who knows, it looks pretty cool though.
