The Oddworld universe is to finally receive a new lease of life in the form of “multiple projects across multiple platforms,” reports Eurogamer, something that is indeed worthy of excitement. The announcement came from British developers Just Add Water who confirmed they are to be working with Oddworld Inhabitants (the company behind the series) to revitalise the franchise with help from original creator Lorne Lanning. Just Add Water managing director Stewart Gilray said “We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us,” in a slightly hippy kinda way.
Superb, there are few forgotten franchises that deserve a resurgence like Oddworld does. It’s been 13 years since the first game, Abe’s Oddysee was released on the PS1 and wowed audiences with its beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds. While it has taken almost a year from the first discussions between Just Add Water and Oddworld Inhabitants, information about these new titles, whatever they may be, will be revealed in the coming months with Gilray adding that “all of your favourite Oddworld characters” will have starring roles. Brilliant.
