Tomb Raider 9 out Winter 2011

UPDATE 3: For the latest news about Tomb Raider reboot, check out my E3 highlights for 2011.

UPDATE 2: Information about the now confirmed Tomb Raider game can be found here and here.

UPDATE: Seems that the only factual part of this rumour is that a new Tomb Raider is in the works. Pretty much everything else has been debunked by members of Tomb Raider Forums (click here for the full story).

With Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light scheduled for a Summer release, little information was known about the next Tomb Raider game. Today, Eurogamer have discovered that developers Crystal Dynamics are up to their ears in creating what will be the ninth game of the series. Rumour has it that it’ll be called Tomb Raider: Downfall which Eurogamer’s source was unable to confirm but did state that the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC will receive a bit of Lara love around Winter 2011.

Back last year when the idea of a new Tomb Raider was just a twinkle in the eyes of Crystal Dynamics, a document leaked suggesting that we’ll be seeing a younger and therefore novice Ms Croft investigating the coastal tombs of Japan. The source said that is indeed correct and that some new artwork found on ex-CD artist Joel Boucquemont’s site is linked to Tomb Raider 9 but not all.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light has completed its development and awaiting release so the full team at Crystal Dynamics can now focus on getting Tomb Raider 9 ready to hit next year. Square Enix had no comment on that matter but the mounting evidence is hard not to take seriously and an interesting transpiration for fans of the series. It’s the more cynical gamer who needs convincing that the franchise is still valid. I just about am, are you?
