Sony says no to HD porn

Vivid Video, a prominent porn producer, had its partially sighted eye fixed firmly on Sony for distributing HD porn films via the PS3. Talks had even sprung up around the topic where Vivid suggested an age restricted area for such movies to be viewed but, as everyone expected, Sony declined. But the idea of streaming mucky movies to a gaming system may still come to fruition as Vivid turn their attentions to Microsoft and the Xbox 360. Founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsch told CVG “If we could get further than we did with Sony [on Xbox 360], we’d be very interested.” Somehow with Microsoft’s drive to appeal as a family system – the Arcade SKU, Project Natal, Avatars – I would imagine that Hirsch will receive the same “Thanks but no thanks.” As it did with the VHS, the porn industry is said to have the power to drive sales of 3D TVs and hardware, something both Sony and Microsoft are very keen in. But when you consider how much criticism the video game industry is subjected to with its ‘child corrupting’ games, it’s almost a certainty that the major platform holders won’t be streaming HD porn.
