The master tomb-delver Lara Croft is to make a come back in a brand new digitally downloadable adventure reports Eurogamer. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was announced on the Eidos Forums with very little detail other than a few quotes from Crystal Dynamics general manager Darrell Gallagher:
“This is a really exciting project for Crystal Dynamics, we have created something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting. Lara Croft is such an iconic character in videogames, with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light we have created what we believe is a truly original digital experience.”
Note the absence of ‘Tomb Raider’ from the title? Add this to Gallagher’s comments that it’ll be “completely new and very different” and we may have something very exciting on the horizon. Could it have anything to do with the job posting posted by Crystal Dynamic’s late last year? Possibly and that would suggest some kind of multiplayer element too. An official website has been set up but you’ll be pretty much be greeted with the same image as above. You can sign up for a newsletter though.
I personally hope that Square Enix concentrates on delivering a high quality experience over a flamboyant marketing campaign. Then we’ll really see something “completely new and very different.” Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is scheduled for a release later in the year for yet to be announced platforms.
