UPDATE: This potential loveliness now has a name – Transformers: War for Cybertron.
Transformers has been fairly mistreated as a franchise in the last couple of years with one ok movie, one terrible movie and two mediocre games. The announcement that a third game is in development initially had me weeping like a child begging for the massacre of my favourite children’s toy to end. But, news from The Sixth Axis has given me hope. High Moon Studios of Darkwatch and the Bourne Conspiracies game are working on the currently unnamed title which is being published by Activision (so expect it to be a yearly franchise…). The best part of the story is how it won’t be based on any current gen Transformers but a tasty combination of generation one (Soundwave will look like Soundwave!), a hint of toned down movie designs (hopefully very toned down) and comic series War Within. So far so good right? It gets better. Gameplay will be similar to Gears of War with a squad of Autobots or Deceptacons. We’ll get to play as one of the team with AI controlling the others. Online multiplayer and ‘perks’ come as standard. Will this finally be the Transformers game we’re all so desperate to be made? I guess we’ll find out next year when its scheduled to be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
