I’m not sure where the disdain for disc swapping originated but it seems a bit silly if you ask me. Mass Effect 2 is the latest game to raise eyebrows due to having multiple discs claims Kotaku. BioWare’s space opera sequel will arrive on 2 discs for both PC and Xbox 360 versions but only the 360 will need to have them swapped during play. Chris Priestly, community coordinator, confirmed the actions on BioWare’s official forum saying:
“Even though there is a disc swap [for the 360], it occurs at a carefully planned place in the game (that does not interfere with gameplay) and is done once. You do not swap back and forth. 1 swap and then done.”
I’m not sure if anyone would have expected anything other than swapping the discs once but it’s nice to have that clarified – and stop any further potential questioning on what is essentially nothing new. His last statement on the matter sums it up perfectly:
“Why 2 discs? Answer: Because you cannot fit this much awesome on one disc.”
There of course will be a collectors edition that adds a third disc of behind-the-scenes content but that’s a whole different topic altogether!
