Despite Nintendo’s grumbles, the Wii still sells incredibly well for a system that’s only a couple of steps ahead of it’s predecessor. There’s been constant rumours bubbling that we’ll soon be getting a HD Wii but Nintendo of America boss, Reggie- Fils Aime, spoke with Kotaku saying they need more of a reason to include HD in the Wii:
“The fundamental issue in the logic flow is that… gosh, it’s such an opportunity to take HD capability and link it with the Wii. And what we have said, repeatedly, is that that’s not the way we at Nintendo do things. The way we at Nintendo do things is, you know, when we will move to a new generation, it’s because there are some fundamental things the console cannot do.”
Call me a cynic but the fundamental things a Wii cannot do is offer a satisfactory online experience or sufficient space for the multiple channels and downloadable games. Adding HD capabilities can only compliment these short comings. It’s a little odd that Nintendo are dead against upgrading the Wii right now since we’re getting a third iteration of the DS early next year.
