Sony Entertaiment Online and Wizards of the Coast have been chatting and it turns out that there just isn’t enough Magic: The Gathering video games. So, combining both knowledge of gaming and card collection Magic: The Gathering – Tactics was born and is coming to PS3 and PC early next year. Details are sparse at the moment but what is known centres around how the game will be an online 3D turn-based strategy affair set in the world of Magic. It sounds as if pure card duelling will take a back seat on this one leaving more of a strategical approach to the gameplay. Kotaku had the quote from John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment saying “We’re going to be taking the Magic: The Gathering Multiverse places players have never seen,” which pretty much suggests just that. The game will have both single and multiplayer modes and a beta should be starting soon.
I’m not big on strategy games but then again, before Yu-Gi-Oh on the DS I wasn’t really into TCGs either. That game lead me onto the multitude of card battling titles and I hope that Magic: The Gathering – Tactics does the same for it’s own genre – whatever it ends up being. Check out the teaser after the break and see if you can work anymore details!
